Modification of the quality factor
In this chapter, the modification of the quality factor of the primary circuit will be analysed. To analyse this, a loss resistance Rloss is added in the primary circuit and will be modified while the other parameters remain constant. Changing Rloss will change Q1. Following code is used to change the value of Rloss:
.step param R1 list 2 5 10 20 50 100
A higher Q1 indicates lower internal losses in the primary side, which improves overall efficiency. In contrast, Q2 (secondary side) is influenced by the load resistance. When the load resistance is too high, Q2 becomes large, leading to poor energy transfer, which reduces efficiency. On the other hand, when the load resistance is too low, high currents flow through the secondary side, causing conduction losses and lowering efficiency. This is why while increasing Q1 generally improves efficiency, Q2 only improves efficiency within an optimal interval.
